Bungoma County has received a significant boost in the teacher recruitment drive, with 1,182 vacancies — one of the highest allocations in the country.
The distribution is extensive: Bumula (85), Bungoma East (81), Bungoma Central (108), Bungoma North (67), Bungoma South (174), Bungoma West (70), Cheptais (49), Kimaeti (186), Kimilili (109), Kopsiro (61), Mt. Elgon (74), Tongaren (62), and Webuye West (56).
The sub-county of Kimaeti leads with 186 vacancies, reflecting its high demand. This large allocation shows the government’s recognition of Bungoma’s large student population and growing education needs.
Teachers in the county have often complained of handling overly large classes. With this allocation, schools are expected to experience relief and improved performance.
Education stakeholders have called for transparency in recruitment and deployment. If properly managed, the new vacancies could significantly improve Bungoma’s academic ranking nationally.
