In a bid to transform Kenya’s education sector, the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has unveiled a revised salary scale that will raise teachers’ earnings by as much as 29.5%, starting July 2025. The adjustment follows a comprehensive CBA worth Sh33.7 billion signed between TSC and teachers’ unions.
The revised structure focuses on creating equity within the profession by offering better pay to entry-level teachers while also fairly compensating experienced educators. Officials say the updated structure will eliminate wage stagnation and ensure a more equitable distribution of income across the 11 teaching grades.
“This pay review addresses several systemic challenges, from stagnated promotions to the wage gap between low and high-grade teachers,” said TSC Chair Jamleck Muturi. He noted the changes would improve teacher retention and motivation.
