Bomet County has been allocated 422 vacancies in the ongoing national recruitment of teachers. This comes at a critical time when schools are grappling with understaffing.
The distribution per sub-county includes: Bomet Central (84), Bomet East (87), Chepalungu (62), Konoin (66), and Sotik (123). Notably, Sotik has the highest allocation, reflecting the higher number of schools and learners in the area.
The new teachers will help implement the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC), which requires more individualized attention. Parents in rural areas such as Chepalungu and Konoin have particularly welcomed the allocation, as many schools there operate with strained teaching staff.
This recruitment also promises employment opportunities for local graduates. County education officials have urged fairness in recruitment to avoid nepotism and ensure that the most qualified candidates are selected.
If well implemented, the new teachers will not only reduce the student-teacher ratio but also enhance the quality of learning across all Bomet schools.
